MSUN-IDS Faculties Join the ASEAN Chemistry Teachers Conference in Bangkok

Two educators from Mindanao State University at Naawan - Integrated Developmental School, Ms. Marialyn Jaca-Buado and Mr. Kevin Client B. Matutes, made their mark at the 2024 Pure and Applied Chemistry International Conference (PACCON 2024) held at the Bhiraj Convention Centre, Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) on January 26-27, 2024.

Ms. Jaca and Mr. Matutes were among the distinguished participants in the Training the Teachers and Networking of ASEAN Chemistry Teachers, an integral part of PACCON 2024. This conference serves as a platform for educators across the ASEAN region to exchange knowledge, insights, and advancements in the field of chemistry.

Their participation in this prestigious event was made possible through their outstanding performance during the BBL-CST Small Scale Chemistry Training for Secondary School Teachers in the Philippines Project. The training, held at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium on August 8-9, 2023, aimed to enhance the skills of secondary school chemistry teachers in the country.

Out of the numerous participants in the training, Ms. Jaca and Mr. Matutes emerged as two of the only 10 qualified teachers chosen to represent the Philippines. This remarkable achievement not only highlighted their dedication to professional development but also showcased the high standards of education at Mindanao State University at Naawan.

The duo's presentation at the ASEAN Chemistry Teachers Conference covered innovative teaching methods, advancements in chemistry education, and collaborative initiatives for the future. Their active participation and contributions were well-received, fostering meaningful connections with educators from other Asian countries.

Ms. Jaca and Mr. Matutes expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to represent the Philippines at such a significant international event. They believe that their experience will contribute to the improvement of chemistry education in their home country and strengthen ties with fellow educators in the ASEAN region.

The successful participation of Ms. Jaca and Mr. Matutes in PACCON 2024 showcased MSUN's commitment to promoting excellence in science education and fostering collaboration among ASEAN member countries in the field of chemistry.
