Charting Southeast Asia's Future: Mr. Pat Ray M. Dagapioso's ICSEAS Journey

Last week, one of our esteemed faculty members, Pat Ray M. Dagapioso from the College of Education and Social Sciences, represented MSU Naawan at the prestigious International Conference on Southeast Asian Studies (ICSEAS). The conference was held at the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, from October 19 to 21, 2023.

Pat Ray M. Dagapioso presented his paper titled 'Differing Populist Styles: A Comparative Study on three Populisms of Duterte and Marcos Jr.' His paper delved into the distinct political and populist styles adopted by Presidents Duterte and Marcos Jr. during their time in office. Furthermore, it explored the profound impacts of these differing styles on Philippine politics, governance, and democracy.

ICSEAS, now in its seventh edition, drew scholars from across the globe, including representatives from institutions like the University of Wisconsin – Madison, University of the Philippines – Diliman, Ankara University, Mahasarakham University, and many more. This conference provides a platform for inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary scholars to share their research on Southeast Asia. This year, the conference focused on the critical theme of regionalization and the associated challenges faced across Southeast Asia. The conference was not only a space for academic discourse but also an opportunity for cultural exchange. It concluded with a memorable walking tour of the historic city of Kaohsiung.

Our university's involvement in ICSEAS underscores our commitment to academic excellence, fostering research, critical thinking, and global engagement among faculty and students. Stay connected for more updates on our academic achievements.
